Tacrolimus Ointment Treatment for Keloid Scars

Topical tacrolimus cream may reduce keloid scars.

Tacrolimus has historically been taken orally to suppress immune system response to and rejection of transplanted organs. In ointment form, it is a nonsteroidal option for inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema.3

In a small clinical study, patients using a topical form of the immunomodulator drug tacrolimus showed some improvement of keloid symptoms, and in a case study a patient using tacrolimus for dermatitis noted resolution of a keloid during treatment.3
